Smoother, firmer-looking skin — without the peeling, redness and next-day regret of retinol. That's what tallow and bakuchiol do together. Bakuchiol is the plant world's gentle answer to retinol, and grass-fed tallow — the fat closest to your own skin (~55%) — is the perfect carrier to melt it deep in. Gentle enough for sensitive skin, stable in daylight, and it works quietly over the weeks instead of punishing you overnight. Anti-ageing that feels like nourishment, not a chemical peel.

What is tallow, and why does your skin love it?
Tallow is rendered grass-fed beef fat, used in skincare for thousands of years before synthetic cosmetics elbowed it aside. It never stopped working. The reason is biology: grass-fed tallow shares a strikingly close fatty-acid profile with your own skin oil — around 55%, closer than any common plant oil. Your skin reads it as “self,” so it drinks it in and strengthens the barrier without clogging most people's pores. It's naturally rich in fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E and K, plus CLA with documented anti-inflammatory properties.
What is bakuchiol, and how is it different from retinol?
Bakuchiol is a plant compound from the seeds and leaves of Psoralea corylifolia, used for centuries in Ayurvedic and traditional Chinese medicine. Today it's loved as a gentler, plant-based alternative to retinol. The most-cited clinical trial — a 2019 study in the British Journal of Dermatology — found bakuchiol comparable to retinol for smoothing the look of fine lines and improving pigmentation, with far less redness, peeling and stinging. It's an encouraging result; the overall evidence base is still younger than retinol's, and results build over months rather than overnight. But gentle enough for sensitive skin, and steady in daylight — that's a rare combination.
Why tallow and bakuchiol together?
Bakuchiol is fat-soluble — it belongs in a lipid-rich base. And grass-fed tallow is a lipid-rich base almost identical to skin itself. Tallow carries bakuchiol exactly where it needs to go, deeply and efficiently, in a medium your skin already recognises — no synthetic emulsifiers, silicones or stabilisers. Just two ingredients working as one: a nourishing, barrier-loving cream that softens the look of ageing gently instead of aggressively.
Why I still only use tallow at 40+

Like most women over 40, I've stopped counting the years. I feel lucky to have found healthy food, non-toxic living and pure natural skincare back in my thirties — and I've never needed a complicated routine to keep my skin looking youthful and glowing. People always ask me for my tips, and honestly, Nana Latta only exists because tallow worked so well for me and my family that I couldn't keep it to myself. Eight years of only tallow: always smooth, well-hydrated skin, and the easiest routine you can imagine. Nutrition and genes play their part too — but I can't deny how big a part tallow has played for me.

Who is tallow + bakuchiol for?
Mature & ageing skin
The idea of retinol — firmer, smoother-looking skin — without the irritation that makes it hard to keep up.
Sensitive & reactive skin
Bakuchiol is gentle and stays stable in daylight, so it suits skin that flares with stronger actives.
Dry & dehydrated skin
Tallow's barrier-loving fats feed dryness deeply while the bakuchiol works quietly underneath.
Bakuchiol is also often chosen as a gentler alternative when retinol is being avoided, including during pregnancy or breastfeeding — but always check with your midwife or doctor before adding any active.
We love our international clients 🌍
Reading from the US or Canada? You may already know tallow — it's had a big resurgence there. This is the European version: grass-fed Belgian tallow with bakuchiol, handmade under EU cosmetic law, which bans more than 1,600 ingredients still permitted in the US. We ship worldwide from Belgium — prices in your own currency, shipping calculated at checkout, with free shipping available (see the banner at the top).
Still uncontested in Europe
In the US, tallow skincare has had a major resurgence, and the bakuchiol pairing is well established. In Europe the conversation is only just beginning — shoppers here are increasingly wary of long synthetic ingredient lists and drawn to ancestral, minimal beauty, yet very few European brands offer a well-formulated grass-fed tallow cream with bakuchiol, and almost none with genuinely local provenance. That's the gap Fancy Rose was made to fill.
Fancy Rose — tallow + bakuchiol, handmade in Belgium
Our Tallow Butter Fancy Rose is built around exactly this combination: grass-fed tallow from a Belgian family business with over 200 years of cold-rendering tradition, with bakuchiol and organic rosehip extract. Rosehip adds omega fatty acids and natural vitamin-A precursors that support skin tone and the look of marks over time. Handcrafted in small batches — no fillers, no synthetic stabilisers, no emulsifiers.
How to use
Cleanse gently, then press a pea-sized amount of Fancy Rose into the skin, morning and/or evening — bakuchiol is stable in daylight, so it's happy either way. One jar typically lasts 2–3 months of daily use. New to actives? Start once a day and build up, and patch-test first if your skin is reactive.

Does tallow clog pores?
For most people, no. Because tallow's fatty-acid profile is so close to your own oil, it tends to absorb rather than sit on the surface — it's low-to-moderate on the comedogenic scale. Many with oily or acne-prone skin find it helps balance rather than add to oil. Patch-test first if you're reactive.
Is bakuchiol really as good as retinol?
The best-known study (2019, British Journal of Dermatology) found it comparable to retinol for fine lines and pigmentation with far less irritation. It's a promising result; the evidence base is still younger than retinol's, so we call bakuchiol a gentler, well-tolerated alternative that builds results over months — not an overnight miracle. For sensitive skin that can't tolerate retinol, that gentleness is the whole point.
Is bakuchiol safe during pregnancy?
It's often chosen as a gentler alternative when retinol is being avoided, including in pregnancy — but as with any skincare change, check with your midwife or doctor first.
Where does your tallow come from?
From a Belgian family business with over 200 years of cold-rendering tradition, using grass-fed cattle — upcycled from the food industry, nothing wasted.
Do you ship to the US and Canada?
Yes — we ship worldwide from Belgium. Prices show in your own currency and shipping is calculated at checkout, with free shipping available above a threshold shown in the banner at the top of the site.
