Imagine your whole shelf of creams replaced by one little jar — soft, calm, well-fed skin, morning and night, with nothing else needed. That's what tallow does: one jar covers your day cream, night cream, eye cream, lip balm and body butter, because its make-up is close to what your skin already produces (~55% like human sebum). Cleanse, then smooth a pea-sized amount onto slightly damp skin. Switching from water-based products? Give your skin two to four weeks to settle, and keep the jar at room temperature.

Face, neck, under-eyes and lips — same butter, no extra products.
Day and night
A protective barrier by day, repair support while you sleep.

Apply straight after cleansing, while skin is still moist, and it melts in.
A little lasts
Pea-sized covers the whole face — one jar goes a long, long way.
My whole routine, honestly

The best thing about tallow, for me, is how versatile it is. I use one of our balms all over — face and neck. I cleanse gently first, and while my skin is still damp I smooth on whichever tallow butter I fancy that day, everywhere, including under my eyes and on my lips. That's it. That used to be my dream, and now it's my reality. Before bed I use a little more for a mask effect.

Day cream, night cream, or both?
Tallow works beautifully morning and night. By day it hydrates and forms a natural protective barrier against pollution, wind and cold. At night it supports your skin's own repair cycle, feeding it while you sleep. Start with a pea-sized amount — usually enough for the whole face. It warms with your skin and sinks in with no greasy residue. Our Minimalist Butter is an easy all-day pick; for a richer night treatment, a slightly thicker layer works like an overnight mask.
Give your skin a moment to settle
If your skin is used to water-based or synthetic products, it may take a short two-to-four-week settling-in period as it adjusts to real fats — that's completely normal, and it's usually your skin recalibrating its own oil rather than reacting to tallow. Everyone's different, so patch-test first if you're prone to reactions, and give it the full window before you judge. Most people are glad they did.
How to layer tallow with other products
With serums
Apply your serum to freshly cleansed skin and let it absorb, then smooth a thin layer of tallow over the top. Tallow acts as a natural seal, holding your actives against the skin and helping limit moisture loss while they work.
As a standalone moisturiser
For the simplest routine, cleanse and apply tallow straight to damp skin. Our butters carry vitamins A, D, E and K plus botanical extracts, so they're complete moisturisers on their own — no serum required.
Under sunscreen
Apply tallow to clean skin, give it two to three minutes to absorb, then your sunscreen on top. Tallow provides the nourishment; sunscreen provides UV protection. To be clear: tallow itself is not a sunscreen and shouldn't be relied on for sun protection.
As a makeup primer
A thin layer of tallow makes a smooth, hydrated base that helps foundation glide on evenly. Apply sparingly and let it absorb before your makeup.

Our unscented Tallow + Jojoba Minimalist Butter is gentle enough for the delicate eye area and for lips. Reading from the US or Canada? We ship worldwide from Belgium, with free shipping to the US & Canada on orders over €100. Every jar is handmade under EU cosmetic law, which bans more than 1,600 ingredients still permitted in the US — the short, clean list a one-jar routine deserves.
Tallow as a body butter
Tallow is at its best on the body right after a shower, while skin is still damp — that leftover moisture locks in as the tallow forms its protective layer. Give extra love to dry spots like elbows, knees and heels. This is where our dedicated Essential Body Butter — Lavender & Frankincense comes into its own: a richer, whipped 100 ml butter made just for the body. Prefer something brighter and more energising? The Essential Body Butter Refresh — peppermint, sweet orange and lemongrass — wakes skin up and doubles as a hand and foot cream.

What this means for your skin type
Dry skin
Tallow can be your whole routine, day and night, with nothing on top — the richest, most complete standalone option.
Oily & acne-prone
Start with a thinner layer and give the two-to-four-week settle a fair chance. The unscented Minimalist Butter is the lowest-risk start.
Sensitive & reactive
Use it alone or as the last step over a serum you already tolerate — Family Daisy's short, chamomile-based formula leaves little to react to. Patch-test first.
Combination skin
Tallow's balance means most people don't treat oily and dry zones differently — one product, a little thinner over the T-zone.
Mature skin
For extra renewal, a tallow-bakuchiol blend like Fancy Rose is a gentle, retinol-free way to build it in.
How to store your tallow
Tallow is naturally stable and needs no fridge. Store at room temperature, out of direct sun and heat. In summer it may soften, in winter firm up — both normal, neither affects how it works. Always scoop with clean, dry hands or a spatula, since water shortens shelf life. Kept well, our tallow lasts 12 months from opening.
Frequently asked questions
How much tallow should I use on my face?
Start with a pea-sized amount for the whole face. Tallow is rich and concentrated — a little goes a long way. If it feels greasy, you've used too much. Apply to slightly damp skin for the best melt and spread.
Can I use tallow every day?
Yes — it's gentle enough for daily use, morning and evening. Many people notice their skin's texture and hydration improving within four to eight weeks of consistent use.
Is tallow suitable for oily or combination skin?
Generally yes. Tallow's composition closely mirrors human sebum, which is why many with oily skin find it doesn't add to congestion the way heavier plant oils can — some find their own oil settles over time. Results vary, so patch-test, and start with the unscented Minimalist Butter.
Can tallow be used on the body as well as the face?
Absolutely — the Minimalist Butter goes happily on both. For the body specifically, our Essential Body Butter is the richer, purpose-made choice. Apply to damp skin after showering for the body, and a pea-sized amount for the face.
Does tallow expire?
Our tallow keeps for 12 months from opening when stored correctly — lid closed, dry hands or a spatula, away from sun and heat. With no water in the formula, there's minimal risk of mould or bacteria under normal conditions.
