Our Story

Nana Latta · “Mother Earth” in Chechen

Beauty is not complicated. The earth is generous.

The story of how a piece of ancestral wisdom — and one unlikely stroke of synchronicity — became Belgium's first handmade tallow skincare brand.

What Nana Latta stands for

Three beliefs in every jar

Nature knows best

The earth already makes what skin needs. We don't try to improve on it — we protect it, and keep it close to the way it was found.

Nourish, don't fix

Skin isn't a problem to be solved. Fed something it recognises, it calms down and finds its own balance — no ten-step routine required.

Honest over noise

Short ingredient lists. Nothing added for appearance, nothing left out for cost. What's on the label is what's in the jar.

The why behind the why

She taught me everything with her hands

Laura, founder of Nana Latta

My grandmother never measured anything. She knew when a mixture was right by the smell, the feel, the way it moved. She would press rendered fat from grass-fed cattle into her palms, work it slowly across her face, and tell me — this is what the earth gives us. Don't look for something better.

I grew up in the Chechen Republic surrounded by this kind of wisdom. In Chechen, the word for Mother Earth is Nana Latta. It was never just a name — it was a way of seeing the world: that the earth is generous, that the body is wise, that beauty comes from being nourished, not fixed.

Everything changed when I became a mother

I'd been living in Belgium for years, reaching for the same serums and creams as everyone else. But the moment I held my child and thought about what would touch their skin every single day, something shifted. I wanted to be certain. I wanted to truly understand.

So I trained — as an Organic Skincare Formulator and Health Coach — studying ingredients, formulation and the biology of skin. And the more I learned, the more I kept arriving at the same quiet truth: what my grandmother had known, without a single certificate, was right.

The science even confirms it. Grass-fed tallow shares a fatty-acid profile remarkably close to human sebum — the same building blocks our skin uses to protect and repair itself, naturally rich in vitamins A, D, E and K. Of course our skin recognises tallow. We simply forgot to trust it.

Then tallow found me back

At first I made it the old way — a piece of fat from the butcher, rendered slowly in my own kitchen. But by EU cosmetics law, I couldn't build a brand on fat I rendered myself. And then came the part I still can't quite explain. During Corona I was booked, as a model, for a commercial shoot — without knowing what it was for. I walked in to find a large brick of pure, rendered, halal-certified tallow waiting in front of me: a Belgian family business that has been cold-rendering grass-fed tallow the natural way for over 200 years.

They gave me that brick after the shoot, and kept supplying me while I perfected my formulas. Tallow and me — it was meant to be. That same family's tallow is in every jar today.

How we make it

By hand, in small batches, in Belgium

Small batches, the slow way

Every jar is whipped by hand in our Belgian studio — grass-fed, halal-certified tallow, gently cold-processed to keep its vitamins intact, then blended with botanicals chosen for what they actually do.

Our soap is cured slowly and swirled by hand — no two bars are quite identical. It's the same across everything we make: take the time, keep it simple, let the ingredient do the work. Nothing added for appearance. Nothing left out for cost.
